Privacy Policy

This policy explains what The Upper Seat ("we", "us") collects when you use the Upper Seat iOS app, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built the app to deliver a personal grooming experience — we collect only what we need to do that well, and we do not sell your data.
Information we collect
- Account & contact: your name, email address, and/or phone number, used to create your account and sign you in.
- Bookings & preferences: your appointment history, grooming preferences, seat preferences (beverage, temperature, conversation level), feedback you submit, support requests, any community posts you choose to make, and the photos your barber adds to your Style Evolution.
- Health information: any allergies, skin sensitivities, or product reactions you or your barber record, so we can keep your service safe. You can ask us to remove these at any time.
- Location (optional): your location, only when you grant permission. We use it in the foreground and in the background to auto check you in when you arrive at the shop and to confirm you're on your way before a visit. You can disable this anytime in Settings.
- Car service (optional): if you request a ride to or from your visit, the pickup and drop-off addresses and time you provide.
- Payment: processed by Square. Your full card number is never stored on our servers — Square handles it. We retain only the last four digits and a secure token used to charge you for visits and membership renewals.
- Device & diagnostics: basic device information and a push notification token (if you opt in) needed to keep the app working and to send the reminders you've chosen. If the app crashes, we automatically receive a diagnostic crash report (technical logs such as the stack trace and your device and app version) so we can find and fix the problem.
How we use your information
- To book and remind you about your sessions.
- To deliver the "set my seat" experience and keep your preferences on file.
- To run your membership, rewards, and points.
- To send notifications you have opted into.
- To operate, secure, and improve the app, including diagnosing crashes and fixing bugs.
We do not use your data for cross-app or cross-site advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How we share information
We share data only with service providers that help us run the app, each under a data-processing agreement:
- Square — payment processing.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and push notifications.
- Resend — sending account and verification emails.
- Bunny CDN — image hosting.
- Turso — our encrypted database.
We may also disclose information if required by law. We do not sell personal information.
What your barber sees
Your barber sees only what they need to serve you — your name, grooming and seat preferences, style notes, and service history. Your barber does not see your phone number or email address.
Data retention
We keep your account data while your account is active and for up to 12 months after closure so we can honor refunds and resolve disputes. You can request earlier deletion (see below).
Your rights and choices
- Delete your account: you can permanently delete your account and personal data from within the app, under Profile → Sign-in & security → Delete account.
- Access, correction, export: you can request a copy of your data, correct inaccuracies, or ask us to delete it by emailing us.
- Location & notifications: you can turn these off anytime in iOS Settings or in the app.
- Marketing: you can withdraw consent for marketing messages at any time.
Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest, and we limit access to the people and services that need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe.
Children
The Upper Seat is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be surfaced in the app before they take effect, and the effective date above will be updated.
